Sharda Puja is performed to pay reverence to Maa Saraswati. This puja is done on the main festival of Diwali along with Lakshmi Puja and Chopda Puja (Gujarat). Saraswati, Goddess of wisdom and learning is also known by the name of Sharda. Along with Goddess Lakshmi, who is the prime deity of Deepawali Puja, devotees also worship Goddess Saraswati (wisdom) and Lord Ganesha (knowledge) on this day. Essentially, all these three deities are worshipped together on the day of Deepavali.
Diwali, the festival of lights, is a celebration of all those aspects that bring prosperity in life. As per Hindu religion, it is believed that wealth is not the sole factor for a happy and prosperous life. Wisdom provided by Goddess Sharada is required to sustain the wealth and prosperity bestowed by Goddess Lakshmi and knowledge provided by Lord Ganesha is required to grow this wealth.
Sharda Puja is an auspicious day for all the students as they worship Goddess Saraswati on this day who blesses them with all the success in their education and studies. So, the observance of Sharda Puja on the day of Diwali holds immense significance in Hindu culture.
